About Marco

Growing up in a small, mountainous, isolated region of Mexico, my first encounter with theatre was in the dance, ritual, and puppetry traditions of the Mexican canon.

The blend of Nahuatl and Otomi musics, alongside classic Spanish theatre, and the surrealist fascinations of our culture became my core interests in art. Although it broke my heart to leave, I am grateful for whatever providence gave my parents the bravery to leave our small town behind, to come to the United States. In Los Angeles, I encountered a plethora of cultures, sensibilities, and the excitement of American theatre, film, and television. I pursued it all with joy and it led me to become the first in my family to attend university - studying my B.A. in Theatre at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

After UCLA, my skills in dramatic analysis helped me land an internship with Disney Imagineering. I learned from top executives how to craft pitches, workshop ideas, lead presentations, manage production teams, and oversee budgets effectively. My time at Disney fostered a love for developing and producing work across a variety of medias. This passion led me to the company 19f Productions. After a year, I rose to become a Creative Executive at Do Good Films LLC, where I led the creative team developing content for film and television.

Moreover, I became the managing director of Do Good Films’ non-profit Create The Writer’s Room (CTWR) - a firm focused on empowering POC writers and diverse narratives. I was responsible for growing the brand, retaining donors, and producing campaigns that engaged thousands, including securing a $1.4M grant from the State of Oklahoma. My years of networking and team-building also played a role in helping CTWR partner with big names such as Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon, Netflix, TheWrap and Paramount. In short, my time at Do Good Films and CTWR led me to perfect my abilities as a creative professional, a strong businessman, and effective non-profit manager.

During this time I continued to direct for the theatre and fostered meaningful friendships working with artists at Theatre West, Pergola Productions, and The Latino Theatre Company at LATC.

By Although I don't believe in isolating to one form - film or theatre - I came to realize that I can't imagine life without what I know is important to my soul: the collective act of seeing and breathing that is theatre. There are questions about Chicanismo and the "quest for belonging" that I want to interrogate, companies I’ve yet to develop, and scholastic projects - like leveraging my knowledge of Romance languages into translations from classical theatre - that I will accomplish.

I’ve always wanted to build something that honors my parents' sacrifice, a space that understands that diversity is not charity and seeks new ways to promote understanding and compassion among divided communities. A space founded on humility and joy as the gateway to community.

I am ironclad in my belief that the

theatre is the place to do it.
